Apple Inc. is officially sorry for the issues of Old iPhone batteries

apple old battery issues

Apple Inc. yesterday acknowledged and apologized for the decrease in performance and battery life of iPhones with old batteries (mostly iPhone 6 series), and this is coming after certain threats of lawsuits has surfaced against the company. It seems like the new updates being regularly made does affect devices with older batteries – they apologized for not being transparent about this fact.

An excerpt from the official message reads;

We’ve been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process. We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize. There’s been a lot of misunderstanding about this issue, so we would like to clarify and let you know about some changes we’re making.

First and foremost, we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that.

Across the internet, people are laying allegations that Apple in fact deliberately had made this possible, so as to have people upgrade to newer iPhones or go for a paid battery replacement.

Apple is looking for a way out of this, and have promised three things to affected users.

  1. Apple will make a reduction in the price for a battery replacement of an out-of-warranty iPhone from $79 down to $29 come late January to December 2018 for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs replacement. More details coming on apple.com
  2. Early in 2018, an iOS software update will be issued with new features that give users more insight into their iPhone’s battery life, so they can see for themselves if its condition is affecting device performance.
  3. Work will be done to improve how Apple manages performance and prevent unexpected shutdowns as batteries age

I guess I just have to go for the iPhone X and take my mind off the older devices.
